Transparent Benefit Solutions Agency

About Liam Arrington

I was in medicine first.

I moved from nursing into insurance after seeing a disheartening lack of transparency in benefits—people who were sick or injured finding out, too late, that the plan they'd been paying for didn't do what they thought it did. That's the whole reason this agency is called Transparent.

Liam Arrington, founder of Transparent Benefit Solutions

My years in medicine

Before I ever sold a policy, I spent years working in medicine. I saw it from the inside—the good days when a plan worked exactly as it should, and the hard ones when it didn't.

I spent that time on an oncology floor and later in the ICU, sitting with people on some of the hardest days of their lives. You don't forget what it looks like when someone is fighting to get better and fighting their insurance at the same time.

“I was in the room for the worst news people ever get. Then I watched their coverage make it worse.”

The turning point

One experience really changed the way I looked at health insurance. I saw someone I actually went to high school with get diagnosed with stage 3 of a rare blood cancer. He was admitted to the hospital, and just three days later he was discharged—because his parents believed the health plan they had in place would cover him.

That stuck with me.

It made me realize how easy it is to have a health insurance card in your wallet and still not fully understand what that coverage actually means when something serious happens.

That's a big part of why I do what I do today. I don't want people finding out what their plan does or doesn't cover when they're already in the hospital.

Why “Transparent”

You can throw a rock in just about any town and probably hit a health insurance agent or broker. The problem isn't finding someone who can sell you a plan. It's finding someone who will actually take the time to understand your situation and help you find coverage that makes sense for you.

Unfortunately, there are agents out there who are more focused on getting you signed up and collecting a commission than they are on whether the plan is actually the right fit. I believe my job is different. My job is to educate you on what's available, explain your options, and help you understand what you're actually getting.

And if the right plan for you happens to come from me, great. If it's from Joe down the street, that's okay too. At the end of the day, I'd rather you make an informed decision than feel like you were sold something you didn't understand.

“You should know what you're paying for before you sign—not after you file a claim.”

How I work now

I'm independent. I'm not tied to one carrier, so I shop 100+ against your real situation and tell you the truth about what fits. There's no fee for my help—and I don't disappear after enrollment. When it's time to actually use your coverage, I'm still the person you call.

What that means for you

A medical professional's instincts, pointed at your coverage.

He reads the fine print like a medical professional

Years of charts and care plans trained him to catch what the exclusions and networks actually mean for your care.

He explains it the way he explained a care plan

Plain language, no jargon, no pressure. Walking people through what happens next was the job for years. You leave the conversation actually understanding your options.

He's still there when you file a claim

Enrollment is the start, not the finish. When you need to use your coverage, he picks up the phone.
